Rory Dwyer attempts an ESAA Championships record at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium

Encouraged by the crowd support, Warwickshire's Rory Dwyer attempted an English Schools high jump record height of 2.13m in the inter boys competition on Friday.

With his winning 2.10m he was just two centimetres off the record mark and claimed gold ahead of Surrey's Ocean Schwartz with 2.02m and Lee Johnson of Bedfordshire with 1.93m.

"Championship records, they can be broken, but no one can take away a gold medal," said Dwyer, who at the age of 16 has been selected for the World Juniors in Eugene and has sights set on making the final.
