Double Olympic, world and European champion looking for a strong start to 2015 at February event

Mo Farah has confirmed his intention to compete at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham in February.

It would be the double Olympic, world and European champion's seventh time of competing at the event as he uses the meeting to test his fitness at the start of a year in which he will hope to successfully defend his world 5000m and 10,000m titles in Beijing.

"I’m really looking forward to competing at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix," said Farah. "It is without doubt one of the best indoor events in the world and I’ve got great memories of setting three British records here over the years.

"My last track race was in Birmingham in August at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix where I finished my track year with a win over 2 miles, so it would be great to start 2015 in the same way in front of the amazing crowd.

"It’s set to be an amazing event and it will be great to see where my fitness is at," he added, with the 2015 edition of the meet to take place at the Barclaycard Arena (NIA) on February 21, the same date as the Saucony National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill. "2015 is a big year for me as I’ll be defending my 5000m and 10,000m world championship titles.

"It would be great to get the year off to a strong start and put on a good show for the athletics fans in Birmingham."
