Home country races mark end of cross country season

Athletes head to Callendar Park this weekend for the Home Countries International Cross Country

The cross country season comes to a close on Saturday at the Home Countries International Cross Country event at Callendar Park, Falkirk.

The event will see teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland compete on the country.

Representing England at the Scottish meet will be Matthew Bowser, Alex Teuten, Alex Brecker and Alastair Watson in the senior men’s team, and Claire Duck, Steph McCall, Jane Potter and Juliet Potter for the women.

Inter-Counties winner Gus Cockle, Ellis Cross, Cameron Field and Christopher Olley go in the men’s junior race while Gemma Holloway, Niamh Bridson-Hubbard, Abbie Donnelly and Philippa Stone will run in the junior women’s.

Among those competing on home soil will be Luke Caldwell (pictured), who raced for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games 5000m and 10,000m, hill runner Andrew Douglas and Sarah Inglis, plus under-20 GB international Euan Gillham.

Wales will be represented by 11 athletes, including Owain Jones, Rob Samuel, Lucy Marland, Charlotte Gaughan and Clara Evans, while NI & Ulster champion Aaron Doherty and third placer in the senior women's event, Rebecca Henderson, are among those on the Northern Ireland team.

The event takes place straight after the SIAB Schools International.

Timetable for the Home Countries International

2.10pm - under-20 women's 6km
2.35pm - under-20 men's 8km
3.00pm - senior women's 8km
3.30pm - senior men's 10km
