British Athletics Cross Challenge action returns on Sunday

Adam Hickey is set to defend his title at the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Cardiff on Sunday.

The Southend AC athlete is arguably in his best-ever form as shown by his 12th place at the European Cross Country Championships in Bulgaria last month.

He was eighth at the opening Challenge fixture in Liverpool in November but will be favourite at Blackweir Fields in the Welsh capital where he is due to face the likes of  Dewi Griffiths who returns to competitive action for the first time since the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Another European Cross competitor, Lily Partridge, heads the line-up in the women’s race. Having finished 11th in Samokov, she will be trying to hold off the challenge of Maryse Haynes, Sarah Tunstall, Rebecca Robinson and Louise Small, although reigning women's Cross Challenge champion Katie Brough is not expected to race.

Euro Cross representative Jac Hopkins will be hoping to score a home victory, the Swansea Harrier among the entries for the junior men’s race.

Milton Keynes on February 7 and Birmingham on March 7 will stage the remaining events in the series, which has a prize fund of £25,000.
