Amy Griffiths warmed up for the IAAF World Junior Championships in style as the Leicestershire athlete clocked a PB and took more than two seconds off an English Schools senior girls 1500m championship record that had stood since 1989.
In a race that saw the Aldershot, Farnham & District athlete renew her on-track rivalry with fellow Eugene-bound runner Bobby Clay of Kent, Griffiths ran 4:15.08 to smash the record held by Maxine Newman and finish more than four seconds clear of Clay with 4:19.47. Durham’s Lydia Turner took bronze with 4:23.58.
"This is my final year at the English Schools so I thought I need to go out with a bang!" said Griffiths.
