Hurdler David Omoregie is among those chasing titles at the merged Inter-Counties and England Athletics Championships

Although the country’s leading senior athletes are heading to Rio, some of those who just missed out on Olympic selection, plus a host of top juniors, will be in action at the merged Inter-Counties and England Athletics Championships in Bedford this weekend (July 30-31).

Following his breakthrough to run 13.25 after the Olympic selection deadline, sprint hurdler David Omoregie is out to make the most of the rest of this season. His opposition is led by England under-23 bronze medallist Khai Riley La Borde.

Recently-crowned European youth 800m champion Isabelle Boffey is entered for the 800m, while former world junior silver medallist Jess Judd is down for both the 800m and 1500m.

In the men’s sprints, the European junior 200m champion Tommy Ramdhan is in action, along with Conrad Williams, who goes in the 400m. Former national 100m record-holder Montell Douglas goes in the women’s sprints.

Having improved his high jump PB to 2.18m to land a ninth-place finish at the World U20s, Tom Gale is one of the main athletes to watch out for in the field.

Niamh Emerson, who won bronze in the heptathlon at the European Youth Championships, is lined up for both the long jump and high jump and should challenge for gold in both.

The programme, which also includes a selection of para-athletics events, begins at 10am on both days.
