The two-time Olympian gave tips and advice to this year's event ambassadors

Eilish McColgan met with Simplyhealth Great Women's Run ambassadors - the 'Super Six' - on Thursday to pass on tips and advice ahead of this year's event on June 4.

The Super Six is a group of runners who have already entered the Glasgow event, each with a different story and reason for running.

As well as meeting some of the ambassadors - Eilidh Reid, Lisa Northcote, Claire Farquhar, Liz Craig and Sarah Miller - two-time Olympian McColgan spoke about the benefits of running and encouraged others to take part.

The clock is ticking on a 10-week countdown to the event, meaning now is a great time to focus on a training plan. With spring now in the air, hopefully there’s a bit more spring in the step too, and more opportunities to pull the trainers on and get outdoors.

"If you’ve never done a run before, a 10km is a good place to start," said Scottish star McColgan. "You can go from the couch to a 10km in 10 weeks.

"It’s all about building it up gradually.

"You don’t need to be running miles in a week, just build it up, and 10 weeks does give you a good time to prepare."

The Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run is the largest women’s only running event in Scotland and this year a new 3km route has been added. There’s also a specific wave for mums and buggies.

The 10km route starts at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park and runs through the heart of the city’s west end, passing iconic landmarks such as The Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow University, The Science Centre and The SSE Hydro. Along the way will be bands, pipers and dancers and all finishers will receive a goody bag, including a medal, technical T-shirt and water.

Entry is open at greatrun.org/womens.
