World and European indoor 60m hurdles champion sustained a quad injury

Andrew Pozzi will not defend his European indoor 60m hurdles title in Glasgow in March due to a quad injury.

The 26-year-old is set to miss the whole indoor season after sustaining the leg injury while training.

"After a great block of winter training I picked up a muscle injury that sadly requires six weeks to recover," Pozzi told Sky Sports News.

"While the recovery is going well it's important at this point to manage this sensibly and ensure a full recovery is made for the future."

He added: "It's extremely disappointing not to be able to defend my European indoor title in Glasgow but I'm excited to watch my team-mates and training partners at what will be another fantastic championships in the UK."

Pozzi, who also claimed world indoor gold last year, had been due to compete at the Copernicus Cup in Toruń on February 6 and at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 16.

Last year he switched his training base from Loughborough in the UK to Formia in Italy to work with Cuban coach Santiago Antunez.

According to Sky Sports News, Pozzi sustained his injury over the Christmas period when back in the UK and is now back in Italy working on his rehab.
