Mondo Duplantis has written and performed the official anthem for September's inaugural Ultimate Championship in Budapest — and will perform it live in the stadium to close out the event.
Mondo Duplantis's talents are not confined to the pole vault runway. World Athletics has released Gold, the official anthem for the new World Athletics Ultimate Championship, written and performed by the Swedish world record-holder himself alongside co-writers Carl Silvergran and Oscar Chase, who also produced the track.
The song is out now on Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming services, with an accompanying music video released alongside it.
"I wrote the song around representing something that's a lot bigger than yourself," Duplantis said. "I think that's what we all do when we're on the track. We represent our family, our team, our coaches, and I love that concept. Music and sports are the two things that bring people together in the best way, and Gold is an expression of that."

Gold will become the signature sound of the Ultimate Championship, woven through the broadcast and live event experience across the three days of competition. Duplantis will close out the championship himself with a live performance of the song in the stadium on the final night, Sunday 13 September.
World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said the choice of anthem-writer reflected the wider ambitions of the new event: "The Ultimate is purposefully designed to showcase the talents and passions of our sport's biggest stars, on and off the track. Mondo is one of our most recognisable and accomplished athletes, and we could not be more excited that he is the one who created the Ultimate Anthem. This is a massive global sporting championship, and it felt appropriate to have an anthem that serves to inspire our audiences and fans across the world written and performed by one of the greats."

The music video was shot in Budapest, host city of the inaugural Ultimate Championship, with Duplantis filming at landmarks including Fisherman's Bastion and Heroes' Square. It also weaves in personal archival footage of Duplantis as a child and young athlete, alongside clips from some of the defining moments of his career, with family, friends, fellow vaulters and other track and field stars all making appearances.
Music has run alongside Duplantis's athletics career for years. Represented by Sony Music Sweden, he has written and produced tracks working between Stockholm and Louisiana, where he grew up, amassing more than 11 million streams on Spotify alone even before Gold's release.
The World Athletics Ultimate Championship itself is an entirely new addition to the athletics calendar, set to be held every two years and pitting world champions, Olympic champions, Diamond League winners and the year's top-ranked athletes against one another to settle the debate over who is the best of the best. The inaugural edition takes place in Budapest from September 11-13, with a prize pot of $10 million on offer.
