Indoor Combined Events International Match, Cardiff, January 26/27

Niamh Emerson won the pentathlon with a world-leading 4544 points to move to fourth on the UK all-time list behind British record-holder Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Kelly Sotherton.

The 19-year-old's score qualifies her for the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, with her marks including an 8.68 60m hurdles PB, 1.83m high jump, 13.60m shot put PB, 6.11m long jump and 2:14.48 800m.

The January 31 edition of AW magazine will include an in-depth interview with Emerson, where she talks about her early days in athletics, her great 2018 season and hopes for 2019.

The British women’s team won overall ahead of Spanish, French, Czech and Polish teams.

Spain's Jorge Ureña won the men's event with 6124 points, with Andrew Murphy top Brit in fifth with a PB of 5628 points.

Jack Turner won the under-20 men’s heptathlon with 5430 points to go fourth on the UK under-20 all-time rankings after a 60m PB of 7.17, 7.06m long jump, 12.58m shot put, 1.94m high jump, 8.05 60m hurdles, 4.15m pole vault and 2:50.55 1000m.

On the first day of action, Holly Mills was joint winner of the under-20 women’s pentathlon title with Spain’s Maria Vicente. Read more on that here.

Hustopece, Czech Republic, January 26

Morgan Lake equalled the UK indoor high jump record with a clearance of 1.97m to finish third behind Ukraine’s Kateryna Tabashnyk and Yaroslava Mahuchikh with 1.99m.

Chris Baker was runner-up in the men's event with 2.26m.

New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Boston, January 26

Andrew Butchart marked his track racing return with a fourth-place finish over 3000m, clocking 7:46.50 in a race won by Ethiopia’s Hagos Gebrhiwet in 7:37.41.

PSD-Bank Indoor Meeting, Dortmund, Germany, January 27

European indoor champion Asha Philip clocked a world-leading 7.12 for 60m, after winning her heat in 7.20.

Kristal Awuah won her heat in a PB 7.30 before finishing third in the final in 7.34.

Bratislava, Slovakia, January 27

Competing for England, Confidence Lawson came close to his PB with 6.68 to win the 60m.

Alicia Barrett led an English 1-2 in the 60m hurdles as she clocked 8.37 ahead of Jessica Hunter with 8.45.

Naomi Ogbeta improved her indoor triple jump best to 13.68m to win and move to fourth on the UK indoor all-time list.

Athletics Australia World Cross trial event and open 10km, Stromlo, January 27

GB's Charlotte Purdue, who trains in Australia, won the open race in 34:49 ahead of Australia's Melissa Duncan with 34:55 and Caitlin Adams with 35:00.

Meeting de Paris, France, January 27

Burkina Faso's Hugues-Fabrice Zango set an outright African record and world lead of 17.58m to win the triple jump.

USA's Sam Kendricks also set a world-leading mark with 5.84m in a pole vault competition missing Renaud Lavillenie, who decided not to compete after feeling hamstring pain during warm-up.

France's Orlann Ombissa-Dzangue won the women's 60m final in 7.24 (after a 7.15 PB in the heats) with Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji recording the same time in second. GB's Imani Lansiquot ran 7.32 for fourth.

The top two in the men's race also ran the same time as Ivory Coast's Gue-Arthur Cisse and Ghana's Sean Safo Antwi jointly won with 6.60. Ojie Edoburun ran 6.74 for sixth, while world and European gold medallist Richard Kilty returned after injury to clock 6.75 in his heat.

Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortega won the 60m hurdles ahead of Aurel Manga, 7.63 to 7.64. GB's David King was third in 7.68.

World decathlon record-holder Kevin Mayer just missed out on a place in the 60m hurdles final with 7.81 in the heats to come close to his PB and he also cleared 5.35m in the pole vault.

Welsh Senior Indoor Championships, Cardiff, January 26/27

Shannon Malone won the women's 60m ahead of Hannah Brier as both athletes clocked 7.45.

The men's 60m final saw Arron Owen crowned champion, clocking 6.87, after the disqualification of Sam Gordon and Jeremiah Azu.

FPSG Scottish Senior and U17 Indoor Championships, January 26

Double world relay medallist and 400m specialist Zoey Clark claimed two medals – 200m gold and 60m silver. First she clocked a PB of 7.42 in the 60m behind Portugal's Tamiris de Liz (7.37) before running 23.60 to take the 200m title in her sixth race of the day.

In the men's long jump, Alessandro Schenini and Stephen McKenzie both improved on the previous Scottish under-20 indoor record with leaps of 7.52m and 7.51m respectively.

Cinque Mulini Cross Country, Italy, January 27

Winfred Mutile Yavi, the Asian Games steeplechase champion from Bahrain, won the women's race from Adanech Anbesa of Ethiopia. Britain's Gemma Steel was 14th.

Yavi's fellow steeplechaser Jairus Birech of Kenya beat Albert Chemutai of Uganda in a close men’s race.

Miramas, France, January 26/27

After clearing 1.93m in the high jump on Saturday, Katarina Johnson-Thompson clocked 8.40 in the 60m hurdles on Sunday.

Vienna, Austria, January 26

Rachel Miller further improved to a European-leading 60m PB of 7.20 before winning the final in 7.26.

Ireland's Phil Healy clocked a world-leading 400m of 52.31 ahead of Lisanne de Witte's 52.66 and GB's Eilidh Doyle's 53.08. Amber Anning ran a PB of 53.35 for the fastest time by a British under-20 athlete for 49 years.

In the men’s 60m, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey ran 6.71 for second place behind Jan Volko with 6.65.

Sophie McKinna won the women's shot put with 17.37m and her fellow Briton Abigail Irozuru won the long jump with 6.55m.

Osaka, Japan, January 27

Ethiopia's Fatuma Sado won the Osaka International Women's Marathon in 2:25:39 ahead of Japan's Rei Ohara with 2:25:46.

Harbour Club Last Friday of the Month 5km, London, January 25

Belgrave's Edward Auden won with a sprint finish in 15:53 as he was chased home by Andrew Clarke.

W55 Clare Elms won the women’s race by well over a minute in 18:01 to just miss her recent English age group best by five seconds.

Kingston, Jamaica, January 26

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her 60m race in 7.21 (-0.8), while Elaine Thompson clocked 7.24 (-0.7).

Nesta Carter won the men's 60 m in 6.67 (-0.5) ahead of Andrew Fisher with 6.68.

Karsten Warholm International, Ulsteinvik, January 25

Norway’s world 400m hurdles champion Karsten Warholm beat three-time world indoor champion Pavel Maslak in the 400m, clocking a 45.56 national record ahead of Maslak's 47.10.

European steeplechase bronze medallist Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal won the 3000m in 8:52.79.

Razorback Invitational, Fayetteville, USA, January 25

Hurdles specialist Grant Holloway further proved his versatility to win the long jump with 8.02m and the 60m with a world-leading 6.51, after clocking 6.59 in the heats - his first ever 60m race.

The week before he had clocked 7.49 for 60m hurdles and 20.69 for 200m.

Sweden's European pole vault champion Armand Duplantis cleared 5.83m.

Dr Sander Columbia Challenge, New York, January 26

A US quartet of David Ribich, Henry Wynne, Brannon Kidder and Izaic Yorks broke the world indoor best for the rarely-run 4xmile relay, clocking 16:03.68.
