Kirsten McAslan and Richard Kilty were among those to claim victory at the Scottish Senior and Under-17 Championships on Saturday, with McAslan's fellow Glasgow 2014 athletes Allan Smith, Sarah Warnock, Angus McInroy and Kirsty Yates also securing Scottish title success.

World and European indoor 60m champion Kilty got his season started with a win in 6.65 ahead of Irish athlete Jonathan Browning with 6.83 and 17-year-old Scot Cameron Tindle with an 6.88 PB.

The women's 800m was missing world 1500m fifth-placer Laura Muir after she withdrew through illness, but the event remained one to watch as McAslan stepped up to the distance for the first time since 2011.

Clocking 2:04.48, the world 4x400m medallist won the title ahead of Mhairi Hendry, who came through for second in 2:04.97, and Maddie Murray, who had led for three laps, placing third in 2:05.47.

"That was tough," McAslan told Scottish Athletics.

"I wanted to have a go at it and I am happy with the time and winning the title but I need more endurance to move up fully to 800m. I will be sticking to 400m for this season, that’s for sure."

The men's 800m title was won by Ben Greenwood in 1:51.78, while Sarah Inglis claimed the women's 1500m win in a 4:13.11 indoor PB.

Anna Gordon won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.92m for a Scottish indoor under-20 record, while Allan Smith won the men's high jump ahead of David Smith, with both athletes clearing 2.20m.

Gillian Cooke won the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.60m to claim what Scottish Athletics predict as being her 30th senior Scottish Championships medal.

Erin Wallace clocked a Scottish and British under-17 best in the 800m with 2:06.59.
