Kerron Clement to join Bolt All-Stars at Nitro Athletics - global update
Olympic 400m hurdles champion Kerron Clement is the latest high-profile name to be confirmed for the inaugural Nitro Athletics Series in Melbourne next month, informs organisers.
Clement will join the Bolt All-Stars team in the series that kicks off next month and will pitch Australia against Usain Bolt’s All-Stars, China, England, Japan and New Zealand.
“Anything that involves being a part of a team I'm always excited about because I consider myself a team player and I like to think I can motivate my other teammates to reach their full potential,” said Clement.
Olympic shot put champion Ryan Crouser believes Randy Barnes’ world record of 23.12m will be broken before 2020, informs the IAAF.
“I think it will happen before 2020. We are such a young group and with four more years at least one of us should be over 23 metres. In fact, I think it is possible there could be multiple athletes over 23 metres. There is still a little way to go but with three guys pushing each other, that’s when we could see those performances over 23 metres. And 23.12m,” he said.
Olympic long jump silver medallist Luvo Manyonga from South Africa will compete indoors for the first time at the Karlsruhe Indoor Meeting on February 4, informs organisers.
The South African will face leading German long jumper Julian Howard and could approach the long-standing meeting record of 8.38m which has stood to Larry Myricks since 1988.
Organisers of the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade have announced the relay teams for the 4x400m.
The top six countries are invited based on the 2016 European lists.
The men's event will include Belgium, Poland, France, Great Britain, Turkey and Serbia. The women's event will be contested by France, Great Britain, Poland, Ukraine, Italy and Germany.
The 2014 world indoor triple jump champion Lyukman Adams opened his season with victory at the Moscow Christmas Cup on Tuesday, recording 16.71m in the first round.
Marina Buchelgnikova (6.51m indoor PB) and Aleksandr Popov (7.91m) topped the long jump events.
Dmitriy Zhelyabin cleared 5.50m in the pole vault, while Maksim Afonin (20.16m) and 19-year-old Alyona Bugakova (16.44m) were the best in the shot put.
Yevgeniya Polyakova (7.40) won the women's 60m and Filipp Shabanov clocked 7.85 in the hurdles.
