Video interview with Christine Ohuruogu following her 400m heat at the European Championships

Christine Ohuruogu might have been planning to take it a bit easier in 2014 but on Tuesday evening she proved she still means business at the European Championships as she clocked a 400m season's best of 51.40 to win her heat and easily progress.

After the race the world champion explained how she is doing the event as her challenge for the year to build up for 2015. "I can't afford to not do anything at all this year," she said.

"I'm just doing this because I want to get fitter," added Ohuruogu, competing at her first European Championships.

"I really just want to get fit for next year. If I wasn't here, I'd be at home eating cake. It was cake or it was here."

Hear more from Ohuruogu in the video interview below and catch up on the first day's evening session action here.
