Event to be held in Trafford for the second time in September with aim of getting more road runners racing on the track

The BMC 10,000m Track Festival is to return for a second year on September 5.

Held at Trafford AC, the meeting is aimed at both elite and recreational runner level, with a 10,000m entry standard of 50 minutes.

"The aim is to get more road runners racing on the track," explained race organiser Stephen Green.

"Last year we had six graded races with the Scott Overall winning the men's 'A' race in 29:18 and Sarah McCormack the women's in 33:38."

Last year saw a total of 99 finishers, with the large majority setting PBs.

"The aim this year would be to get up to 200 finishers which would make it the UK's biggest 10km track event," added Green.

Held in conjunction with the Northern Athletics Championships, the races will again take place at Longford Park's famously fast track.

Eighties distance running icon and former GB international Steve Kenyon will be the guest of honour.

The event gets underway at 1pm, with entry fees of £6 for BMC members and £12 for non-members. See www.race-results.co.uk to enter.
