Interview with teenage sprinter Desiree Henry following her 11.21 personal best at the European Championships

Desiree Henry was delighted with her 11.21 personal best in the first round of the 100m at the European Championships on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old explained how she'd experienced déjà vu in just missing out on an individual medal at the recent World Junior Championships and then the GB team failing to get the baton round in the 4x100m relay - a repeat of what she had experienced at the same event two years before.

But she returned to the track more determined than ever on her senior individual international outdoor debut to finish as runner up to heptathlete Dafne Schippers and automatically qualify for Wednesday's semi finals.

"It's absolutely crazy," said Henry. "For me personally, I'm just extremely happy because I had World Juniors a couple of weeks ago and I didn't really perform to the best of my ability so for me to come here, the first round of a senior championships, and run a PB, it shows that you just have to step up mentally and physically."
