Masters runner excels at the Burnham Beeches race as we bring you our latest UK-wide endurance round-up

BURNHAM BEECHES HALF-MARATHON, Buckinghamshire, August 17

There was a second W60 British all-time best for Sarah Gee when finishing third woman overall in 83:47, a time which beat Treena Johnson’s previous best by getting on for a minute.

Gee had, herself, won overall here 15 years ago as a W45 veteran in 79:30 after topping the 2010 W45 rankings for that year with a 77:43 from the Reading Half.

Here Gee was not too far down on women’s race winner Melissa Gibson’s 82:35. The Ealing runner was fifth in the World 100km championship in India in 2023.

James Laing won the men’s race with 72:56.

Gee said: “I was pleased with my time today and know that if weather is cooler and on the flat, I could go faster. I don’t mind the heat, but I think it has started to affect me more in my old age.”

She added: “The course is shaded, so not too bad with the sun, but it’s forever undulating and thereby never boring, however, I can't believe that I did 76-minutes on the reverse course 15 years ago.”
