HELENA TIPPING WREXHAM 10km, North Wales, July 21

Marc Scott brought Omar Ahmed's long unbeaten road winning streak to an end with victory by 12 seconds in 28:27 in a race held over four of the short laps used in the Village Bakery Half-Marathon in February.

It was the 30-year-old’s best outing since running 2:11:19 for 11th in April’s London Marathon and brought a winning cash prize of £500 to the Richmond & Zetland runner.

Ahmed pocketed £300 for his 28:39 while Kadar Omar was third for the second year in a row but was nearly a minute faster this time, at 28:58, after being headed by Jonny Mellor and Abdul Sharif in 2023.

Just four seconds down in fourth was Dewi Griffiths but well clear of Swansea clubmate and namesake Josh.

In sixth, veteran John Gilbert ran 30:12 in hist first race since winning the half-marathon here in February in 66:46.

It was also close in the women’s race as Anna Bracegirdle got home 13 seconds clear of top W45 Sonia Samuels in 33:34 to claim the women’s £500 purse after being second here in 2022 and it was her seventh win of the year.

A few weeks after beating Priscilla Welch's long-standing UK W45 record of 34:02 with 33:36 (33:35 chip) at Colshaw Hall, Knutsford, Samuels enjoyed another strong run with 33:48 (33:47 chip).

Based in the Isle-of-Man, Leeming’s first race was only as the pandemic broke out in January 2020 and his second in December of that year and this was only his sixth race outside of the island.

Also in new territory was women’s race winner Charlotte Dillon, who was eighth in the under-17 Inter-Counties Championships this year. Her 35:48 took the Houghton Harrier to fourth on the under-17 rankings for the year and a winning margin of more than two minutes.
