With distance runners focused mainly on the English National Cross Country Champs, many others still took to the roads over the weekend
CANCER RESEARCH LONDON WINTER RUN 10km, Trafalgar Square, March 23
Kristian Jones won in a personal best of 29:22 in a field of 20,000 runners.
The Swansea Harrier, whose time is unlikely to be recognised by Power of 10 due to the event not having a UKA licence, took the title by nearly a minute from Liverpool’s Matt Jackson.
The women’s race saw former Aldershot team-mates Emma Pallant-Browne and Louise Small come out on top with duathlon and triathlon champion Pallant-Browne getting the win in 34:32.
The former European under-23 cross-country champion and world under-20 1500m bronze medallist switched to multi-sports following knee surgery in 2012. World titles in duathlon and aquathon followed as well as race wins at half-iroman distance.

WOKINGHAM HALF-MARATHON, Berkshire, February 23
Josh Grace prevailed in a tight race for individual superiority and Annabel Gummow took the women’s section as a wind made the 10C temperature feel rather chillier.
After a 29:07 10km in Valencia in January, Grace regained the title that he won here in 2022 and 65:31 was the Aldershot man’s fastest in nearly three years.
Alex Lawrence chased hard to the line but his 65:35 was nearly a minute down on the 2024 London Marathon 2:17:41 runner’s best from 2023.
Herts Phoenix’s Gummow, who won the Fred Hughes 10 in January, improved her personal best by nearly a minute with a 72:59 clocking that saw Aldershot’s Lauren Hall well over a minute adrift at the line despite her own PB of 74:32.
In sixth in the men’s race, top veteran James Connor continued his progression this winter. Following half-marathon efforts of 67:27 and 66:52, the London Marathon masters hopeful improved further to 66:07 in his quest for a sub 2:18 performance in the capital in a couple of months.
