The Jamaican sprint star is to contest the 100m on the first day of London Anniversary Games action in July

Usain Bolt is to return to London's former Olympic Stadium to race over 100m on Friday July 22, with the Jamaican sprint star looking forward to the "special atmosphere" of the London Anniversary Games.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist is set to compete on the first evening of the two-day Diamond League meeting as he continues to work towards the Games in Rio.

Bolt has previously flourished under the floodlights on the Friday night of the London Anniversary Games, winning the 100m in both 2013 and 2015 with respective times of 9.85 and 9.87.

"The London Anniversary Games will be one of my last races before the Olympic Games in Rio," said Bolt. "It will be good to return to the Olympic Stadium on the Friday night and get more of the special atmosphere that the fans always produce.

"I always get great support in the UK and I expect the stadium to be packed. See you in July."

Niels de Vos, chief executive of British Athletics, said: "Usain Bolt is a global sporting icon and this will be one of the last opportunities for families to attend the Anniversary Games and see him compete. I’m sure the British fans will create a special atmosphere under the floodlights in this amazing venue.

"The London Anniversary Games is one of the very best sporting events in Britain and in particular the Friday night will be an incredible exhibition of some of the world’s best athletes, made even more special this year due to its proximity to the Olympic Games."
