The sprints trio headline the 100m at the 49th edition of Athletissima in Switzerland
Kishane Thompson, Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek will face off over 100m at the upcoming Lausanne Diamond League (August 20).
In what is expected to be a blockbuster battle, the trio will all be looking to lay down markers ahead of next month's World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Thompson is the quickest of the three athletes on paper and ran a personal best of 9.75 (0.8) to triumph at the Jamaican Outdoor Championships back in June.
However, at last summer's Paris Olympics, he was beaten to the gold medal by Noah Lyles by just five thousandths of a second, with the pair both clocking 9.79 (1.0) at the Stade de France.
Lyles has only competed in the 100m twice so far this season. He ran 10.00 (-0.6) at the London Diamond League before clocking 10.05 (0.1) to win his 100m heat at the USATF Outdoor Championships. The US athlete decided to skip the 100m semi-finals as he already has a wildcard for Tokyo, courtesy of being the reigning world 100m champion.
It will be the first time that both Thompson and Lyles have gone head-to-head over 100m since that infamous Olympic final in the French capital.
Lyles and Bednarek have recent history though. In what was a hotly contested 200m final at the USATF Outdoor Championships Lyles, in only his third race over half a lap this season, beat his domestic rival, with the duo running 19.63 (0.2) and 19.67 respectively.
As they crossed the line, Lyles, knowing that he'd secured the victory, stared down Bednarek, resulting in the double Olympic silver medallist putting two arms on the back of his compatriot.
Lyles then, backpeddling, reached out his arms in the direction of Bednarek before the pair eventually shook hands. However, their argument continued into the post-race interview with Bednarek stating "like I’ve said before, Noah’s going be Noah" and “I tell ya, if you’ve got a problem, I expect a call".
The US duo haven't competed against each other in the 100m since the Paris Olympics though. Bednarek placed eighth in the final with 9.88 at the Games but has improved his personal best to 9.79 this season.
Also in the 100m in Lausanne are Oblique Seville (9.81), Courtney Lindsey (9.82), Marcell Jacobs (9.80) and Timothé Mumenthaler (10.13).
The other remaining Diamond Leagues on the 2025 calendar include Silesia (August 16), Brussels (August 22) and Zurich (August 27-28).
