Russian sprinter formed part of the 2008 Olympic 4x400m team which has since been stripped of silver

Tatyana Firova has had her results from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games disqualified after reanalysis of the Russian sprinter's samples from the event resulted in a positive test for banned substances.

The 33-year-old formed part of the silver medal-winning Russian 4x400m relay team in Beijing but the team has already been stripped of their medals after team-member Anastasia Kapachinskaya also failed a drugs test on reanalysis.

USA won Olympic gold in 2008, while Jamaica crossed the line third behind Russia. Great Britain was fifth in that race eight years ago.

Firova, who ran the third leg for the Russian team in that Olympic 4x400m final, also placed sixth in the individual 400m at the 2008 Games.

"Tatyana Firova, 33, of the Russian Federation, competing in athletics in the Women’s 400m and 4x400m events, has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she respectively ranked sixth and second with her teammates," read an IOC statement. "Reanalysis of Firova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and 3a-hydroxy-5a-androst-1-en-17-one (metabolite of 1-testosterone, 1-androstenedione or 1-androstenediol)."

The IOC has requested that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) modifies the results accordingly and also considers any further action.
