Jenny Meadows wins with Olympic qualifying time at BMC Grand Prix
Jenny Meadows returned to form in emphatic fashion in blazing to an Olympic 800m qualifier at the British Milers’ Club Grand Prix meeting at Sportcity on Saturday (May 14), Stephen Green reports.
The Wigan Harrier was content to follow the pace through 400m in 58 seconds, before holding on to record a superb 2:01.29 ahead of Alex Bell with 2:02.22 and 2011 world 1500m silver medallist Hannah England, who ran 2:02.97.
Jamie Webb looked strong in winning over two laps (1:48.57) ahead of domestic rival James Bowness (1:48.84).
Sarah McDonald continued her stellar 2016 with a 4:10.81 1500m return, ahead of a resurgent Jessica Judd.
Jake Wightman ran solo for the second half of his metric mile race to record 3:41.89 to open his quest for Rio selection.
Sarah Treacy (6:27.38) emerged a dominant winner of the 2000m steeplechase, breaking the Irish record in the process. Jonathan Hopkins won the men's event in a 5:35.63 PB.
Bobby Clay earned a world junior qualifying time with 9:13.97 in the 3000m, while Ben Connor (13:53.74) and Elinor Kirk (15:41.51) both returned impressive wins in the 5000m.
