Kiplagat wins fourth successive Barcelona Half Marathon

There was no world record on Sunday but Florence Kiplagat won the eDreams Mitja Marato Barcelona for the fourth season in succession in 68:15 ahead of Ethiopia’s Kuma Dibaba (69:49) and Portugal's Jessica Augusto (70:36).

“Records are there to be broken. I’m now happy for her and we’ll try to regain the record in the future,” said Kiplagat on losing her record to Peres Jepchirchir on Friday.

Ireland's Fionnuala McCormack was fifth in 71:35, Britain's Tracy Barlow 10th in a 72:48 PB and Jenny Spink 12th in 73:36.

Leonard Langat won the men’s race in 60:52 from Meshak Koech (60:54) and Joel Kimurer (60:59), while Abel Kirui rounded out the all-Kenyan top four in 61:30. Britain's Luke Gunn was 10th in a 66:40 PB.

Visser sub-8.00

Heptathlete Nadine Visser broke the eight second-barrier for the first time to win the 60m hurdles title in a fast 7.98 from Sharona Bakker (8.10) in Netherlands on Sunday, while European heptathlon champion Anouk Vetter just missed her PB in fourth in 8.27.

Koen Smet won the men’s 60m hurdles title in 7.83.

There was a good standard in the 400m finals with Liemarvin Bonevacia (46.82) beating Tony van Diepen (46.87) and Terrence Agard 46.94, while Madiea Ghafoor (52.88) edged out Lisanne de Witte (52.95).

Sanne Verstegen clocked a fast solo 800m in 2:01.83.

The highlight on the in-field was Rutger Koppelaar clearing 5.63m to beat Menno Vloon on countback in the pole vault.

Perez wins 60m in Metz

Yunier Perez clocked 6.61 to win the 60m at the Meeting Elite en Salle de Metz on Sunday ahead of D’Angelo Cherry (6.62) and Christophe Lemaitre with 6.64 (6.63 in heat), while double Olympic fourth-placer Marie-Josee Ta Lou won the women’s 60m in 7.17 from Jura Levy (7.30).

Floria Guei clocked a fast 51.99 to win the 400m from Olympic finalist Olha Zemlyak (52.09), while Morocco’s Malika Akkaoui won a good quality 800m in 2:00.91 from Ukrainians  Olha Lyakhova (2:00.92) and Anastasiya Tkachuk (2:01.57).

USA’s Dondre Echols won a close 60m hurdles in 7.66 from Simon Krauss (7.68) and Wilhem Belocian (7.68), while Belgium’s Anna Zagre won the women’s 60m hurdles in 7.98 from Ukraine’s Hanna Plotitsyna (8.02).

Ukraine’s Maryna Kylypko cleared an indoor PB of 4.55m to win the pole vault, while Alexis Copello won the triple jump with 16.69m from Benjamin Compaore (16.46m).

Morhad Amdouni won the 3000m in a fast 7:44.55 ahead of Ethiopia’s Mekonnen Gebremedhin (7:44.95) and Azerbaijan’s Hayle Ibrahimov (7:48.39).

Verona Half Marathon

Edwin Koech clocked a fast 60:24 ahead of Bernard Bett (63:08) and Robert Ndiwa (63:15) to lead a Kenyan clean sweep in the Verona Half Marathon on Sunday, while former 1500m specialist Mimi Belete clocked 69:15 on her half-marathon debut ahead of Italian internationals Fatna Maraoui (72:37) and Rosaria Console (72:48).

Hughes among winners in Kingston

Yohan Blake opened his season over 400m at the Camperdown Classic at the National Stadium in Kingston with 47.42. He was ninth overall. Kavon Nelson of Akan Track Club was the fastest of the day with 46.54.

Britain's Zharnel Hughes, who won Blake’s heat ahead of Annsert Whyte (46.85), was second overall in 46.58, while Jaheel Hyde, winner of heat two, finished third in 46.67.

Duplantis world under-20 record

In the pre-programme of the Millrose Games on Saturday, Armand Duplantis cleared a world under-20 indoor pole vault record of 5.75m.
