Georgia Malir among winners at Euro Mountain Running Champs

Britain's Georgia Malir claimed junior gold and helped the Great Britain & Northern Ireland to junior women team silver at the European Mountain Running Championships in Gap, France, on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who shared her training diary in a recent AW 'How They Train' feature, clocked 22:10 for the 4.2km up and down course as her team-mates Catriona Graves, Zara Knappy and Lydia Sharpe ran 22:57, 23:57 and 24:02 for seventh, 21st and 23rd respectively.

With two athletes claiming the other two podium places and a third also in the top 10, Turkey took team gold.

Robbie Simpson secured silver behind Italy's Bernard Dematteis in the senior men's race as he ran 56:19 for the 12.8km course behind the winner's 56:10.

GB again won team silver as Andrew Douglas finished 10th and Tom Addison 15th.

Another team silver for GB came in the senior women's race as Emma Clayton led her team-mates home, running 41:42 in a 8.1km race won by Austria's Andrea Mayr in 39:43. Clayton's fellow Brits Sarah Tunstall and Katie Walshaw placed 12th and 13th respectively.

Andrew Lawler was the top-placed British athlete in the junior men's 8.1km race as he clocked 39:49 for seventh, one place ahead of team-mate Jacob Adkin, in a race won by Czech runner Dominik Sadlo in 37:23. Ciaran Lewis finished 16th to add to GB's tally for fourth place in the team standings.
