The student scene bursts into life this weekend at Bedford Stadium

Britain's top student athletes gather for the BUCS outdoor track and field championships in Bedford this weekend.

The three-day event from April 29 to May 1 features a busy schedule for 1338 athletes across 53 events.

Individuals aside, the contest will be as fierce as usual between rival universities and colleges.

Athletes also have the chance this year to qualify for the World University Games in Taipei from August 19-30.

Women’s entries for this weekend include Jess Coulson and Jenny Nesbitt (pictured) in the 5000m, Adele Nicoll in the shot and Melissa Courtney in the 1500m.

Men’s entries include Adam Hague and Harry Coppell in the pole vault, Samuel Osewa in the 100m, Theo Blundell in the 800m, Jonathan Davies in the 1500m and 5000m, Taylor Campbell in the hammer, Harry Hughes in the javelin and Youcef Zatat in the shot put.

In the 400m, Cameron Chalmers is aiming for his fourth consecutive BUCS title.

Events start at 10.30am on Saturday and conclude with the relays just after 4pm on the Monday.
