Announcement comes the day after the former IAAF president was provisionally suspended from the IOC position

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that former International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) president Lamine Diack has resigned as an honorary member.

Diack's resignation comes the day after the IOC announced it had provisionally suspended him from the position.

The announcement follows news last week that Diack has been placed under investigation by French police on suspicion of corruption and money-laundering.

The 82-year-old also resigned from his position as president of the International Athletics Foundation (IAF) on Tuesday.

"Discussions will be held in due course regarding the IAF and the appointment of a new IAF president," the IAAF commented in a statement.
