Organisers say ticket prices remain "affordable" in the hope of selling out and creating a good atmosphere

Tickets have gone on sale for the 2015 European Indoor Championships to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, from March 5-8.

The event, which will take place over four days rather than the usual three for the biennial championships, is to be held in the city's O2 arena. It is set to be the biggest athletics event the Czech Republic has hosted since the outdoor European Championships were staged in Prague in 1978.

Fans can buy tickets to separate morning and afternoon sessions on the Friday and Saturday, as well as to the single day-time session on the Sunday. Action begins with shot put and long jump qualification on the Thursday, for which tickets are due to be released at a later date.

Ticket prices range from CZK 150 to CZK 750, or €6 to €28, which works out at roughly £5 up to over £20. An event timetable can be downloaded here.

"We deliberately chose to make the ticket prices affordable to the general public," commented Libor Varhanik, president of the local organising committee. "Profits from ticket sales are not crucial for us. We would like to sell out the tickets because the atmosphere of the championship is very important for us."

He added: "The number of first category tickets – the best seats being offered – is very limited. Only approximately 700 tickets will go to sale. So those who want to secure the best places should not hesitate to buy them early."

Helena Fibingerová (pictured above), former shot-putter and head of the event's ambassador project, added: "As the European Athletics Indoor Championships are the top athletics event in the Czech Republic for 37 long years, we believe that the interest from fans to see the top European and Czech athletes in fight for medals on home soil will be great."

See ticketportal.cz for further information and to buy tickets.

The last edition of the event was held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2013. The 2017 championships are to be held in Belgrade, Serbia.
