The full team of 37 para athletes have been confirmed for the championships in Delhi
UK Athletics has announced the full Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships, set to take place in Delhi, India, from September 26 to October 5.
With the latest additions announced today, the squad is now complete, bringing the total number of selected athletes to 37. The performance aims are for athletes to medal at these championships and to support the athletes' potential for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
Among the standout names is six-time world champion Hollie Arnold, who will be aiming to defend her F46 javelin title. She is joined by three-time world champion high jumper Jonathan Broom-Edwards, who will compete in the T44 high jump.
Eleven-time World Championship medallist Sophie Hahn is set to contest the T38 100m and 200m events, as well as the universal relay. Dan Greaves, a highly decorated Paralympic, World, and European medallist, will compete in the F44 discus.
Nathan Maguire returns to international competition in the T54 class, contesting the 1500m, 800m, and 400m, the latter in which he has set a new personal best this season. He will be looking to improve on his fourth-place finish from the Paris Paralympic Games.
Also included in the squad is Anna Nicholson, a bronze medallist at the Paris Paralympic Games, who will compete in the women’s F35 shot put. Joining her is fellow Paralympic bronze medallist Didi Okoh, set to race in the T63 100m.
Funmi Oduwaiye heads to Delhi in fine form after recording a new personal best of 38.77m in the discus at the recent Novuna UK Athletics Championships in Birmingham. She will contest both the F64 shot put and F44 discus.
Middle-distance runner Luke Nuttall also returns to international competition. The two-time Paralympian opened his season with a 3:59.65 over 1500m at the Novuna London Athletics Meet and will line up in the T46 1500m.
A wave of new talent will make their senior international debuts, with seven athletes earning their first call-ups to the national team.
Bree Cronin will compete in the F44 discus with a personal best of 39.83m. Amy Thompson, just 19 years old, will represent GB & N1 in the women's F41 shot put after showing impressive progress this year.
Scotland’s Finlay Menzies impressed at the England Athletics Para Championships in July, running a personal best of 16.68 in the T72 100m—an event that will make its Paralympic debut at the LA 2028 Games.
Completing the group of debutants is Bebe Jackson, who made history as Team England’s first-ever medallist at the Commonwealth Youth Games. She claimed silver in the F42-44/F61-64 discus last year in Trinidad and Tobago.
UK Athletics Head of the Paralympic Performance, Katie Jones, said: "The announcement of our whole team for the World Para Athletics Championships in India is the first significant step into the LA 2028 Paralympic cycle.
"A full squad of 37 has a great mix of experience, from the seven international debuts to a good depth of world-class medal winners. I have full confidence in the athlete's ability to deliver outstanding performances on the global stage. Congratulations to all those selected."
