Australian beats strong field at a Continental Tour Gold meeting that saw 400m runner Zakithi Nene and hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg also in form
Australian sprinter Lachlan Kennedy, the world indoor 60m runner-up behind Jeremiah Azu earlier this year, won the men's 100m at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi in a PB of 9.98 (-0.7) ahead of Bayanda Walaza of South Africa and home favourite Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya.
Walaza clocked 10.03 and Omanyala 10.07 as Kennedy stormed clear at this Continental Tour Gold event on Saturday (May 31).
Competing at 1795m altitude at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Zakithi Nene of South Africa enjoyed a breakthrough performance to win the men's 400m in a world leading 43.76.
Nene drew away from the field to win by more than a second, taking half a second off the 44.22 PB.
Elsewhere there was a world lead in the men's hammer with Ethan Katzberg of Canada throwing 82.73m.
American Jonah Koech equalled the men's 800m meeting record of 1:43.32.
Mercy Oketch won the women’s 400m in 50.14, breaking both the meeting and Kenyan records.
