The World Athletics Championships have now finally arrived and will be taking place in Budapest between 19th and 27th August. Much anticipation has been building for the nine day event, with the best athletes across the world heading over. The betting markets have also now started to open up, with sports betting not on gamstop at bestnongamstopcasinos likely to be popular across the event, with a number of hot favourites, expected to land the odds. Here we cover the top two athletes who are worth following and expected to take all the beating.

  • Men’s 1500m - Jakob Ingebrigtsen

It will come as little surprise that Jakob Ingebrigtsen heads in as the overwhelming favourite for the Men’s 1500m and is at odds of around 1/6 to pick up the gold medal. He is in stunning form at present, so it would certainly be a major shock were he to be beaten in Budapest. He is still just 22 years of age, which is just remarkable, and he is without a doubt the current and future star of athletics.

Jakob won the 1500m gold medal at the Olympic games in Tokyo back in 2020 and has since improve no end. This has seen him set World records and a number of personal bests in 2023 alone, such as in the 1500m, 3000m and 2 miles. That included the stunning 3:27:14 at Silesia and a similar performance will all but land the gold medal.

Jakob is the current number one and is looking to build on his one World Championship gold medals and looking at his current form, it is going to take him to run well below his best to not land that gold medal in the 1500m and we can expect and exciting upcoming race!

  • Women’s 5000m - Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon

She simply has to make the list based on her remarkable season to date and that is of course, Faith Kipyegon. For many she is the best favourite of all, based on the odds, as she has been so dominant to date this season. She heads into the Women’s 5000m in Budapest at odds of around 1/4 and it really will take her to take a massive dip in form, to be beaten.

At 29 years of age, Faith is at the other end of her career to Jakob but she appears to be improving and is showing no signs of slowing down. She has entered this season in remarkable form and we have seen her break three World records in 2023 alone – coming in the 1500m in Florence, the one mile in Monaco and of course the 5000m in Paris. The 5000m performance saw her destroy the previous record in a time of 14:05:20 and if she returns in this form, then the others are simply running for second.

That performance included a 60-second last lap, which is just remarkable and it sets up for a very exciting upcoming 5000m, as could we see her break her own record?
