The 10-time global gold medallist will be running in family events at the Vitality Westminster Mile

Mo Farah has joined London schoolchildren for their daily mile run as the UK capital gets set to welcome back thousands of runners plus the 10-time global gold medallist for the Vitality Westminster Mile later this month.

Farah, who recently broke the British record to finish third at the Virgin Money London Marathon, is encouraging people to sign up to the mile event on Sunday May 27, with anyone entering the family races in with a chance of running with the athletics great as Farah will join in with three of the family events.

Some of those hoping to #RunWithMo at the Westminster Mile had an early opportunity to join him in action on Friday as Farah took part in the Hallfield Primary School's Daily Mile, an initiative which sees children run or jog for 15 minutes every day in their primary and nursery schools.

"It’s nice to encourage kids to stay active and to run a mile," said Farah, who will also be racing the Vitality London 10,000 the following day (May 28) as well as the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run 10km the weekend before that.

"My kids run. I try and make my kids active and we try to run as much as we can to stay fit, similar to what the schools are doing here."

The Westminster Mile programme includes adult races, school races, the British Age Group Road Mile Championships for runners in under-13 to under-20 age-groups and elite races. The Olympians Mile brings together athletes who have competed for Great Britain in any sport in an Olympic Games.

Alongside the mile events, the all-day Vitality Wellness Festival takes place in Green Park and offers free family-friendly activities including coaching sessions in a range of sports and taster classes in different activities from boxing to yoga.
