Javelin thrower Joanna Blair provisionally suspended after doping violation
Javelin thrower Joanna Blair, who competed for Britain at the European Team Championships in Lille this summer, has been provisionally suspended after a doping violation.
UK Athletics said the athlete had been "charged with having committed an anti-doping rule violation contrary to IAAF Anti-Doping Rule Article 2.1 (presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in an athlete’s sample)".
The national governing body added: "The provisional suspension was issued by UK Anti-Doping and is in accordance with IAAF Anti-Doping Rules."
The Luton athlete now has the opportunity to respond to the charge against her including the right to a full hearing of the case.
According to The Telegraph, Blair has said that a creatine supplement she had been using "was contaminated".
Blair's PB of 57.44m, which was set last year when winning the British title, places her seventh on the UK all-time rankings and the European Team Championships in Lille, where she finished ninth, was her first international for 11 years.
Coached by masters thrower David Burrell, she was hoping to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Australia next year.
