Ewa Swoboda breaks world junior 60m record in Torun
Ewa Swoboda has clocked 7.07 to break the world junior indoor 60m record on home soil at the Copernicus Cup meet in Torun.
The 18-year-old finished 0.21 clear of the rest of the field to equal the world-leading time set by world 200m champion Dafne Schippers in Karlsruhe.
She had earlier won her heat by 0.32 with a time of 7.16.
The previous world junior record of 7.09 had been set by Nigeria's Joan Ekah in 1999.
Swoboda, who won the European junior 100m title last summer, ran her previous best of 7.13 in Luxembourg in January.
Over in Boston, Lynsey Sharp also had a record-breaking run as she clocked 2:00.30 for a Scottish indoor 800m record.
That time also moves her to fifth on the British indoor all-time list.
"Broke the Scottish Indoor Record today with a win and Meet Record!" she later wrote on Twitter. "Was also World Lead for all of 45 minutes!"
Jenny Meadows, who holds the British indoor 800m record of 1:58.43 set in 2010, was also in action on Friday evening and ran 2:01.61 to finish third in Torun.
