The Italian brand’s new lightweight daily trainer is designed to bridge the gap between everyday mileage and race-day speed.

Long before the days of supershoes, when a runner would use a single pair of shoes for all their training needs, things seemed somewhat simpler.

Diadora’s new Corsa model is designed to challenge the single-shoe model with a modern twist.

The Italian brand’s latest performance shoe offers an ambitious proposition: one lightweight trainer capable of handling almost everything a runner requires from it. From easy recovery miles to tempo efforts and faster strides, the Corsa has been developed as a versatile daily training shoe that doesn’t lose its sense of speed.

At just 230g and with an 8mm drop, the Corsa sits firmly in the lightweight performance category. Yet Diadora weight reduction hasn’t been pursued at the expense of comfort. The shoe is built around a new, roomier last, an enhanced toe box and a broader platform, giving runners a more accommodating fit and a stable foundation beneath the foot.

Central to the Corsa’s construction is ANIMA N2, Diadora’s supercritical-foamed EVA compound.

According to Diadora, ANIMA N2 achieves a 72% reactivity score, representing a 40% increase in responsiveness compared with its standard EVA Light formulation, while also reducing weight by 40%.

And while I can’t confirm the figures, the shoe does feel remarkably responsive, light and energising, adding a spring to my stride from the very first steps.

That combination is important to the philosophy behind the Corsa. Rather than relying on a carbon plate to create its sense of propulsion, Diadora has focused on the foam itself to provide a lively, energetic ride.

For runners, that could make the Corsa particularly interesting as a training companion: responsive enough to encourage faster running, but without making every outing feel like a race.

The midsole is complemented by an SCF TPU element, while the outsole uses Diadora’s Special Duratech 5000 wear-resistant compound across its full surface. The aim is straightforward: deliver the grip and durability required from a shoe expected to accumulate serious mileage over the course of a training cycle.

An engineered mesh construction is designed to provide breathability while a secure lacing system helps create a close, dependable fit. The wider platform and expanded toe box reflect a growing emphasis on allowing the foot room to work naturally without sacrificing stability.

It is a practical approach to the modern daily trainer: comfortable enough for longer and easier sessions, but sufficiently responsive when the workout demands a change of gear.

That versatility is also reflected in the athletes who helped inspire its development, including elite runners Marco Langon and Simeon Birnbaum. Their input sits at the heart of Diadora’s athlete-led design philosophy.

While the technology underneath is distinctly modern, Diadora has reached back into its extensive running archive for inspiration. The shoe's retro aesthetic, combined with its modern high-stack silhouette, gives it a distinctive character that feels more Italian performance heritage than generic modern super-trainer.

It is a design language that acknowledges Diadora’s history without attempting to recreate it.

Given its price and technology, the Corsa sits in a very competitive price point of the market yet offers great value for money for the technology and performance it employs.

It’s a refreshingly straightforward proposition: lightweight performance, everyday versatility and Italian design, without the need for a carbon plate.

For runners looking for a single shoe capable of carrying them through the majority of their training, this is a great solution.
