World 100m champion in 2022 faces two-year ban after missing three doping tests over a one-year period but he plans to appeal

Fred Kerley, the American sprinter who won the world 100m title in Eugene in 2022, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit due to breaking whereabouts rules.

The 30-year-old, who won Olympic 100m silver in 2021 and bronze in 2024, could receive a two-year ban.

Kerley plans to challenge the accusations, though. "I have never used performance enhancing drugs and have always competed clean," he said on social media. "I firmly believe one or more of the alleged 'missed tests' were not missed. I will fight for my name and legacy."

His lawyer Howard Jacobs added: “He strongly believes that one or more of his alleged missed tests should be set aside either because he was not negligent or because the doping control officer did not do what was reasonable under the circumstances to locate him at his designated location."

Neither Kerley nor the AIU have stated when or where the missed tests occurred.

Kerley missed the USATF Championships this month and wrote on social media at the time: “Taking some time out to get back on track. The 100m should be a straight sprint. 2025 has presented many hurdles. Thanks to all my supporters.”

In January he was tasered by police after an altercation in Miami.
