The Bowerman Mile boasts possibly the finest field in history for a footrace over 1609 metres, but who wins your vote as the best miler of all?

The Bowerman Mile line-up at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday (May 25) is being described as the greatest field ever assembled for the classic distance.

But who would win a fantasy race between the best milers in history?

At the recent Bannister Miles meeting in Oxford to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Roger Bannister's first sub-four-minute mile, the current and long-standing world record-holder Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco described Bannister as his "spiritual father".

Noureddine Morceli, who held the world record prior to El Guerrouj, was also in Oxford and the Algerian said Bannister "opened the door" for subsequent generations of milers by showing them "anything was possible".

When the 50th anniversary of the Bannister mile took place in 2004, we ran a readers' poll in AW to find the greatest supermilers in history and Seb Coe came out top with 89 points ahead of Herb Elliott (81) and El Guerrouj (60).

But that was 20 years ago and during that time El GUerrouj's stranglehold over the world records for 1500m and the mile has continued.

The period has also seen the emergence of current Olympic champion and world indoor record-holder Jakob Ingebrigtsen plus world title-winning Brits Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman, all of whom clash in the Bowerman Mile this weekend.

So, who is your choice as the greatest miler in history?
