Calli Hauger-Thackery runs 15:04 for 5km at Barrowford event in Lancashire just six days after winning European half-marathon bronze in Rome

With the Podium Classic in Barrowford on Saturday (June 15) being graded, Calli Hauger-Thackery just made it into the sub-15-minute event but ended up just outside that mark with 15:04, as 41 men finished in front of her.

She was easily the fastest woman on the day, though, and her time was just outside her 14:58 best, set over this course in 2022, for the Paris Olympic marathon-bound runner, whose 2:22:17 last October in the United States secured selection.

Hauger-Thackery's run came less than a week after she took individual bronze when leading the GB women's team to gold at the European Championships in the half-marathon.

Up ahead and in his first recorded pure running event of the year, triathlete Solomon Okrafo-Smart improved his best by two seconds when just getting the nod here in 14:18.

The triathlete set his previous best here last August after placing seventh in the under-20 Inter-Counties at Prestwold over a year ago.

It was another under-20, Scotsman Reiss Marshall, who was just headed, but who also set a personal record as 11 more piled in after a close race, under 14:30.

There was also a personal best for Stacey Smith in the B race with a 15:51 clocking. The 2006 and 2008 English Schools 800m silver medallist went on to win the England junior 1500m title in 2009 before taking time out, then returning in 2018 for a British 1500m indoor silver. Smith then returned to competition again last year.

COLSHAW HALL 10km, Knutsford, Cheshire, June 16

After winning the Podium 5km the previous day, Calli Hauger-Thackery was back in action as part of her Olympic marathon preparations, by taking back-to-back victories and, here, heading Lauren Heyes in 32:05 in equal sixth overall.

Both performances built on her 68:58 half-marathon time, for a bronze medal, in the Euro half-marathon just a week earlier.

Husband Nick was also in action to win the race overall by 26 seconds from Matt Clowes, in 30:23.

With a 10 miles best of 47:41 and marathon time of 2:12:59, Hauger-Thackery’s time was some way off of his track 10,000m best of 28:42.30.

Heyes’ 32:47 was a few seconds down on her best for the year but built on her fifth spot in this year’s Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships.

Behind, there was another in-form run from 45-year-old Sonia Samuels, whose 33:35 was only 24 seconds outside her lifetime best set in London in 2022, some 23 years after winning the English National under-20 cross-country title in 1999.

BAMBURGH 10km, Northumberland, June 16

There was class at the head of this Run Nation event as the top four all broke the 30-minute barrier, with the rest of the field over four minutes down.

In a close race, Kenyan Timothy Kibet Koskei just got the nod on Spain’s Hamid Ben Daoud by a second, in 28:54, after these two had got away from Tanzania’s Josephat Gisemo and local favourite Calum Johnson, who finished in that order.

Koskei’s time was just three seconds outside his best set in Berlin in 2019 but does have a 10,000m track best of 27:41.41 from 2021.

Daoud has the faster road time of 28:07 as well as a marathon best of 2:06.35, also from 2021.

The race was a bit of a reality check for Johnson, who usually has things much his own way in these parts.
