World record-holder and Buzunesh Deba to join likes of Geoffrey Mutai and Mary Keitany in New York on November 2

Wilson Kipsang is to run the New York City Marathon on November 2, making an impressive line-up even stronger as the world record-holder is set to join the likes of course record-holder Geoffrey Mutai and other recent past winners Gebre Gebremariam and Meb Keflezighi.

Two-time New York City Marathon runner-up Buzunesh Deba will be looking to go one better in 2014 as she has been confirmed as part of a similarly stacked elite women's field also including Mary Keitany - who broke Paula Radcliffe's Bupa Great North Run course record on Sunday - as well as defending champion Priscah Jeptoo and Edna Kiplagat.

Kipsang will be making his New York City Marathon debut and it will be the second time he will have raced over 26.2 miles since his world record 2:03:23 in Berlin last September. In April the Kenyan ran a course record when winning the London Marathon.

“I’m ‘getting my New York on!’” Kipsang told race organisers. “My preparations for the TCS New York City Marathon have begun and every day before training I know that without self-discipline, success is impossible.”

Among those joining Kipsang and his fellow Kenyan Mutai, Ethiopia's Gebremariam and American Keflezighi in the elite men's race is Uganda's world and Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich and Stanley Biwott of Kenya.

Ethiopia's Deba and the Kenyan trio of Keitany, Jeptoo and Kiplagat will line up alongside the likes of Italy's world silver medallist Valeria Straneo and American Kara Goucher.

"After having two previous years of successful experience, I believe this year will be the most exciting," said New Yorker Deba. "I have been training very well and find myself in good shape."
