Having seen 'Race the Tube' in London, Tynedale Harriers athlete Lea Stephenson challenged himself to 'Beat the Metro' in Newcastle

After watching runners 'Race the Tube' in London, Tynedale Harriers athlete Lea Stephenson came up with his own run vs train challenge in Newcastle.

With the hope of inspiring others to challenge themselves and promote healthy and active lifestyle choices for more people, he filmed his attempts and published the footage of him completing his mission - beating the Metro from Ilford Road to South Gosforth which is a distance of 715m (0.44 miles).

Check it out here:

"As a 400m runner, I usually do my racing on the running track for Tynedale Harriers but I'm always looking for new challenges," said gym instructor and healthy life GP referral fitness assessor Stephenson. "Last year I appeared on Ninja Warrior but was knocked out of the semi finals after tripping on a mat.

"This year I wanted to try something different and came across tube racing in London which looked like fun so I wanted to give it a go and do a Geordie version; 'beat the Metro'."
