British pole vaulters among athletes to impress in Germany, where Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili continued to shine in sprints

A number of Britain's talented young athletes were in action in Mannheim, Germany, this weekend proving their promise as a number get ready for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene later this month.

As reported on Saturday, European junior 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith broke the UK junior record for 100m in her heat on the first day of the weekend-long event, clocking 11.14 to also go top of the UK and world junior season rankings and go to equal fourth on the UK all-time list. She later followed this up with 11.03 in the final though was assisted by a 2.2 m/s wind.

World 200m finalist Adam Gemili ran 10.04 in his heat to take a hundredth of a second off his previous best recorded when he won world junior gold in 2012 and the world 200m finalist was back in action on Sunday, as he won over the longer sprint event with 20.20 - the quickest time by a Brit so far this season which places him second in the European rankings. The mark is also well inside the GB European Championships standard of 20.55 with this the first time he has achieved that this year.

In a separate heat, Chris Clarke ran a fast but windy 20.23 (+2.6 m/s), while Shannon Hylton won the junior 200m in a windy 23.33 (+2.5 m/s). Thomas Somers won the under-20 men's 200m easily in a windy 20.51, as Ojie Edoburun won the under-20 100m in a windy 10.34.

Shona Richards was just two hundredths of a second off her 400m hurdles personal best which ranks her second on the UK junior all-time list with 56.81 for victory.

In the field, there was an impressive breakthrough for world youth champion Harry Coppell in the pole vault as he improved his PB from 5.25m to win with a vault of 5.40m which moves him up to equal second in the world junior lists for this year. It also places him second in the UK junior all-time list and he still has a further year in the junior ranks.

Adam Hague, who is only 16, cleared 5.35m for third place which puts him fifth on the UK all-time list and into the world top ten for this year in the under-20 age-group.
