World half-marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir is targeting Mary Keitany’s course record of 66:54 in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon on November 20, informs organisers.
“Mary’s record is a good one but my time of 1:07:09 in Valencia showed that I am in good shape,” she said.
Jepchirchir is the third fastest in the field with a 66:29 PB behind Ethiopia’s Worknesh Degefa (66:14) and Mary Wacera (66:29).
The line-up also includes world marathon silver medallist Helah Kiprop, European marathon silver medallist Valeria Straneo and world 10,000m silver medallist Gelete Burka.
In the men’s race, the previously announced Eliud Kipchoge (59:25) will face Ethiopia’s Yigrem Demelash (59:49), Eritrea’s Abrar Osman (60:39) and former world and Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich from Uganda (61:15).
Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris has been added to the field for the Cross de Atapuerca on November 13, informs MARCA.
He will face reigning five-time champion and team-mate Imane Merga and Uganda’s Timothy Toroitich.
French sprinter Céline Distel-Bonnet has announced her retirement at the age of 29, informs L’Equipe.
"After more than fifteen years of sacrifices, I simply want to live my life differently," she said on social media.
Distel-Bonnet won silver medals in the 4x100m at the 2010 and 2014 European Championships and retires with PBs of 7.24, 11.24 and 23.30 to her name.
The French Athletics Federation is bidding for the 2020 European Championships.
The European Athletics Council will decide in April 2017 about the host.
London has been awarded the title of top Global Sports City in the Sportcal Global Sports Cities Index for the fifth consecutive year.
The Global Sports Cities Index 2016 was revealed during the Global Sports Tourism Summit at the World Travel Market in London on Monday.
London has hosted, or is set to host, 13 world championships and multi-sports games over the analysed period (2010-2023). Only Moscow (16) and Paris (14, and a 2024 Olympic Games candidate city) will host more events during this period.
