With the 60th anniversary for the first sub-four-minute approaching, vote in our poll for who you believe to be the leading miler of all time

A few days ago we asked you for suggestions as to the greatest milers of all time so that the five most popular could be entered into a poll to discover who Athletics Weekly readers believe to be the ULTIMATE supermiler.

It's almost 60 years to the day since Roger Bannister ran 3:59.4 for the mile, his performance being one of the most revered in athletics history.

Being the first man to clock a sub-four-minute mile with that run at Oxford's Iffley Road on May 6, 1954, certainly puts Bannister up there as one of the leading milers of all time, but it is an honour which could go to a number of super talented middle-distance runners.

So what we want to know is who, to you, is the ultimate supermiler?

See the poll below for the five most popular names suggested by AW readers. We want you to narrow it down to one.

The May 1 sub-four special issue of AW includes bios of all of the mile world record-breakers, including those listed in the poll below.

On your marks, get set, vote!

Sorry, this poll is now closed. See the May 8 issue of AW for results. Don't agree with the results? Send us a tweet @AthleticsWeekly or get vocal on Facebook and tell us who you consider to be the ultimate supermiler.

The initial five-strong list was compiled following suggestions from AW readers but if your favourite supermiler doesn't feature you can tell us who it is by posting the name of your chosen miler in the comments section under this post, by joining the ‘Ultimate supermiler‘ conversation on the AW forum thread here or by sending your supermiler’s name on Twitter to @AthleticsWeekly using the hashtag #supermilers.
