There were wins for Ryan Thomson (PB 29:45) and Morag Millar (34:04) but the races major talking point was Fiona Matheson adding to her many records with a UK W60 best with a 38:49 clocking (38:40 chip) to improve Angela Copson's 38:57 from 10 years ago.

Alastair Walker was close to his UK M65 best with a 35:53 performance.

Boxing Day 4, Clevedon, Somerset, December 26

Felix McGrath retained this annual north Somerset Christmas race, which returned after a year’s absence, in 19:20, some 15 seconds faster than his 2019 effort, Martin Duff reports.

The 27-year-old added to his Three County title win a week earlier over the country, with an 11 second victory over Bristol & West team mate Jack Bancroft.

Laura Gent, who has family ties to the area took over from Aldershot team mate Emma Pallant to top the women’s lists with a narrow victory over Anna Hughes-Davies in 23:52.

Hillingdon AC Christmas morning road race, Ruislip, Middlesex, December 25

Rob Thompson notched his sixth consecutive and eighth victory in total in this race in his fastest time yet, Martin Duff reports.

The 30-year-old scored his first win in 2011 and his 15:34 this year bettered his previous best over the two 1.6-mile-long laps by 18 seconds and was the sixth best among Hillingdon AC members.

Race organiser Gavin Collett said: “After last year’s event had to go virtual, at the insistence of the local MP, Boris Johnson, this year’s race returned in almost its traditional format. Although the field was the smallest since Hillingdon AC took over the organisation of the event in 1966."

On a tough course around the park with 500 feet of climbing, English National cross-country champion Calum Johnson won by over two minutes in 30:09.

Alyson Dixon, who claimed she was fuelled by six bottles of Heineken and a large gin the night before, was a clear women's winner in 37:02. It was her eighth win at the event. Amy Fuller (37:45) and Justina Heslop (37:57) completed the top three.

In excellent conditions, the first 13 broke 24 minutes and 12 of them set PBs as former UK cross-country champion Mahamed Mahamed won in 23:20 ahead of Liam Dee's 23:24 which put the pair top of the UK rankings for 5 miles in 2021.
