Ronners to run London
Virgin Money London Marathon entrants from a variety of backgrounds are united in the same goal as they take to streets of the capital on Sunday – to raise money for the No.1 charity in British athletics.
The runners – or ‘Ronners’, as they are known this weekend – are representing the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund as they tackle 26.2 miles around the city.
The event is traditionally the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund’s biggest money-raising event of the year and this year has 34 people, including 18 marathon virgins, from the shoe brand Nike and clubs such as Serpentine Running Club and Fairlands Valley Spartans through to organisations such as Run Dem Crew and the Fat Girls’ Can Run online group.

All the Ronners have two targets – to finish the event with a performance they are proud of and to raise money for a charity whose target is to subsidise the efforts of Britain’s most talented young track and field athletes.
Altogether the Ronners hope to raise £40,000 for the Fund.
Then, after the race, the Ronners plan to gather at a special post-race party at the Marquis of Granby pub near the finish area to refresh their legs and replenish their bodies with food, drink and a massage. The house is also likely to receive a visit from some of Britain’s leading athletes, all of whom received help from the Fund at some stage during their career.
