Several Olympic and world champions, together with those who recently claimed World Indoor Championships titles, will be in action in Doha on Friday (May 6) as the IAAF Diamond League begins for 2016.

The 14-meeting series will regularly see the world’s best clash as they try to secure Diamond League points that will lead to lucrative overall prizes.

Among those looking to build on their tremendous 2015 seasons in the Qatari capital will be world triple jump champion Christian Taylor, who went close to the world record with 18.21m, while Britain's Nathan Douglas is also among those competing. In the women's event, world indoor champion Yulimar Rojas takes on a field including two-time world gold medallist Caterine Ibarguen and world indoor bronze medallist Paraskevi Papachristou.

Almaz Ayana, who shocked Genzebe Dibaba to take the world 5000m title, lines up against world 10,000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot and silver medallist Gelete Burka over 3000m, while Britain's Eilish McColgan is back in action after her huge PB and Olympic qualifying standard over 5000m at the weekend. Meghan Beesley, Eilidh Doyle (née Child) and two-time world champion Zuzana Hejnova are entered for the 400m hurdles.

Sprint sensation Dafne Schippers races over 100m, Mutaz Essa Barshim will be the local favourite as he heads an impressive high jump line-up, while LaShawn Merritt (400m), Asbel Kiprop (1500m), Ezekiel Kemboi (steeplechase), Caster Semenya (800m) and Omar McLeod (110m hurdles) are among the other big names.
