A look ahead to the second meeting in the Diamond League series

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson and Britain's Adam Gemili are among the athletes in action as the IAAF Diamond League moves on to Shanghai for the second meeting in this year's series on Saturday.

Thompson beat world champion Dafne Schippers over 200m in Doha last Friday and this time she's up against USA's Olympic medallists Tori Bowie and Tianna Bartoletta plus Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye over 100m.

In the men's 200m, Olympic fourth-placer Gemili takes on USA’s 2008 Olympic 400m champion LaShawn Merritt and Churandy Martina of the Netherlands.

USA's world record-holder Aries Merritt and Jamaica’s Olympic champion Omar McLeod are among those contesting the 110m hurdles, which will also see Russia's world champion Sergey Shubenkov return to Diamond League action.

The 400m hurdles features USA's Olympic champion Kerron Clement, while Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas is among those racing the 400m, where she forms part of a field also including Britain's Anyika Onuora.

Kenya's Hellen Obiri goes in the 5000m and world record-holder David Rudisha contests the 800m, while Bahrain's world record-holder and Olympic champion Ruth Jebet again goes up against Kenya's Hyvin Kiyeng, who won in Doha, in the 3000m steeplechase.

The discus competition will see both male and female athletes in action as they throw in alternating rounds, with Olympic champions Sandra Perkovic and Christoph Harting among the entries.

The women's shot put features local favourite Gong Lijiao, while Zhang Guowei is in high jump action along with Britain's Robbie Grabarz. World pole vault record-holder Renaud Lavillenie opens his season and Olympic gold medalist Jeff Henderson goes in the long jump.

Thompson, Lavillenie and McLeod were among the athletes to talk at the pre-event press conference. Hear what they had to say in the video below.

Action gets underway at 17:30 local time (10:30 BST) on Saturday, May 13.

» Fans in the UK can watch the action live on Eurosport Player from 12:00 BST, with a repeat on Eurosport 1 from 18:00. Highlights will be shown on BBC Two on Sunday March 14 from 17:00
