Kelly Sotherton's Commonwealth gold medal found
Kelly Sotherton's stolen Commonwealth Games gold medal has been found.
The medal, which Sotherton claimed when winning the heptathlon at the Melbourne Games in 2006, was discovered in a Sutton Coldfield postbox along with a gold English Schools medal.
The two medals had been among items stolen from the 38-year-old's home last month. The discovery of the medals came after an appeal on BBC's Crimewatch on Monday.
"Update: my medal was found in a postbox the morning after @BBCCrimewatch..." Sotherton tweeted, "what a great result! #found."
On Wednesday West Midlands Police reported how a Royal Mail delivery driver had found the Commonwealth gold medal on Tuesday afternoon when emptying a pillar box in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.
In a message to West Midlands Police, Sotherton said: "I’m over the moon. Crimewatch seemed to appeal to someone’s better nature.
"It must have been a bit of a shock for the postie but I’m glad it was put somewhere safe and can’t wait to get my hands on it again."
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Mindy Mahil from North Birmingham Police, said: "I’ve been in contact with Kelly and told her of the find … she’s absolutely thrilled as she feared the medal was lost forever.
"Many more medals remain outstanding, though, along with electrical equipment taken during the burglary so our investigation continues. If anyone suspects who may be involved, or has seen any of the medals, I’d ask them to get in touch.

The Birchfield Harrier, who also won Olympic heptathlon bronze in 2004 and world bronze in 2007, scored 6396 points when winning her Commonwealth gold, claiming the title ahead of Australia’s Kylie Wheeler and England team-mate Jessica Ennis.
