Sprinter looks ahead to this weekend's Sainsbury's British Championships

Sub-10 sprinter Chijindu Ujah says he isn't feeling the pressure ahead of the Sainsbury's British Championships this weekend despite the men's 100m field being one of the most competitive of recent times.

The Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo-coached athlete will be in the spotlight following his 9.96 in Hengelo, Holland, earlier this month.

With that time the 20-year-old became the youngest British sprinter to break 10 seconds for 100m and the third fastest in British history.

But Ujah remains unruffled.

"I don’t feel the pressure because I don't allow the pressure to get to me," said Ujah, speaking at Lee Valley Athletics Centre at an event held by Sainsbury's, British Athletics' title sponsor.

"My main threat (at the Sainsbury's British Championships) is the clock. I'm just going to go out there and compete to the best of my ability.

"There are a lot of guys in the mix but I can't control what they do, I can only control myself."

In Birmingham Ujah is set to go up against the likes of current world indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty and 2010 world indoor champion Dwain Chambers, who will be aiming for his fifth consecutive UK title.

Ujah added: "This is what British sprinting needs going forward to compete with the Jamaicans and the Americans if we are going to try and compete for world medals and Olympic medals at major championships."
