Sprint star continues to receive recognition following series of successes in 2018

Dina Asher-Smith has added another award to her list of accolades in 2018 as she has been named the Sunday Times sportswoman of the year at a ceremony in London.

Three years after being named the young sportswoman of the year – when Jessica Ennis-Hill won the main award – Asher-Smith was herself receiving the top honour and it was presented to her by the heptathlon great.

It comes a week after the 22-year-old sprint star claimed the women’s European athlete of the year award in Lausanne, while she is also among the nominees for the IAAF's world athlete of the year honour and features in two categories for the AW Readers' Choice Awards.

Asher-Smith completed a European Championships treble in Berlin over the summer, winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. She also tops the world rankings in those events, having improved her British 100m and 200m records to 10.85 and 21.89 respectively.

Added to that, the Blackheath & Bromley athlete claimed Commonwealth relay gold and 200m bronze for England and finished second in the Diamond League 100m.

Olympic and world heptathlon gold medallist Ennis-Hill won the sportswoman of the year award twice during her career and other track and field athletes to have gained the honour in the past include Paula Radcliffe, Denise Lewis, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sally Gunnell and Christine Ohuruogu.

Asher-Smith claimed the award ahead of Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold and cyclist Katie Archibald.
