Alisha Rees, Nick Percy, Jamie Williamson and Mhairi Hendry are among the entries for the August event in Grangemouth

Scotland’s top senior athletes could claim a share of a £2000 prize pot following an incentive introduced for the FPSG National Championships in Grangemouth on August 11-12.

Sprinter Alisha Rees (pictured), thrower Nick Percy and runners Jamie Williamson and Mhairi Hendry are so far among the entries for the event, which aims to give recognition to the commitment and performances delivered by the nation's leading athletics stars.

"Scotland’s best senior athletes could share the £2000 incentive if they win their event and hit the required standards," said Scottish Athletics chief executive Mark Munro.

"It is our intention, through this prize pot, to recognise the commitment and performances delivered by our top athletes at the FPSG National Senior Championships, which may also help raise overall standards and improve the profile of the event.

"If two or more athletes achieve the performance criteria, the prize pot will be shared. If athletes fail to achieve the performance criteria, the prize pot will roll over to a maximum of £4000 at the following outdoor FPSG National Senior Champs.

"The money will only be paid out to those eligible to represent Scotland under Commonwealth Games rules (on residency etc; i.e. visiting athletes are not eligible for these cash awards)."

The standards for the prize pot can be found here.

Entries are still open for the championships, which will be streamed live by Vinco, but close on Sunday July 29 and the governing body urges all eligible athletes from under-17 and above to register.
